Nervous tissue is a network in living things that directs impulses (stimuli) received by the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system and from the central nervous system to other organs. That is why we feel pain, taste food, and inhale its aroma. All human and animal movements pass through the nervous system of the brain or spinal cord. 1. Cell body

The neural portion of the nerve (axon) is a long neuronal cell membrane extending from the cell body. The function of the neurite is to transmit the impulses obtained by the cell body to the neuron through the synapses. The axons are protected by a myelin sheath. The sheath is a membrane made of fat that protects the axon from damage.
